Item Menu

The Item menu is where parameters are set for item codes, item groups, and item classes. This forms the basis of the item code list, which is used to specify items on orders and transactions.

The Item Digit definition table makes it possible for a coding scheme to be established utilizing every digit of the item code. The item digits function controls the allowable characters which can be used in the first digit (which represents the broadest item category and defines the overall behavior of an item as either product, carton, or other) and in digits four through eight (the unique item characteristics). The first three digits taken together make up the item group and are the primary way to access your items.

The item group groups similar items together under one three-digit code or group. The item groups are then used to open the drop-down lists of items throughout the system, in order to enter items on transactions and reports. Item groups become the primary way to access item codes and allows users to select items very quickly.

Item packs are used in the system to describe the various ways items are packaged for sale. When item packs are properly defined and assigned to items, the tasks of order entry, shipping, and labeling items is made fast and easy.  Packs are used to define complex outer, inner, and individual unit packaging configurations for any item. Items can have more than one pack configuration, depending on how many different ways they are sold. This impacts the way quantities are entered in the Sales Orders, Update Pick List, and Shipping screens. Packs are always associated with items and can be specific to a customer. An item alias or a item alias group can be used to override a pack for a specific item or customer. Labels may be associated with packs in order to produce the label quantities needed. Additionally, a different label template can be assigned to each pack.

Pack units are the allowable units of measure in an item pack. The "pack" tools enable users to define complex outer (unit) and inner (pack) packaging configurations for any item; it also allows a third descriptive level named "inner packs" to be defined. Taken together, these packaging configurations are referred to as "packs

The item class is a classification that gives users another way to subtotal and filter margin reports in a way that the item maskCollapsed slashes cannot. Item classes make it possible for inventory and sales reports to be sorted differently from the item group and item digit definitions.

The Item Setup Options control the behavior of certain system features related to field lengths of the Item Info text 3 and text 4 field length.

Note: See Lot Info, COOL Rules, and Labels. Although these topics are not part of the Item menu, the logic is used in the Item section.
